Maligayang (Maligalig na) Pasko - Mula Kay "Deng"

dahil pasko ngaun, lagi nating naiisip

ibig sabhin may bagong iisipin
pero bago mag-enero
babati muna ako

HANGGANG SA MULI AT MALIGAYANG PASKO!!!

Please Allow Me To Introduce - Grace's "Happy Feet"

Ladies and Gentlemen would you please welcome Grace's "Happy Feet"... A sandal made of wood with hand painted designs and therapeutic effects. Not only are they stylish, these wooden feet carriages are tough. In the seventies, Happy Feet became a fad among students and other AB clients. Happy Feet sandals were selling for P35 a pair then, now they easily go from P1,000 to P1,500 a pair depending on the model (still reasonable if you're into quality). And if you want to jazz them up, straps are available in different colors and cuts.

Grace's special pair of togs is hand painted with psychedelic colors, lines and symbols (flowers, stars etc...) with a white leather strap and a white rubber sole that keeps the wearer safe during the slippery rainy days. Part of the introduction of the sales person that helped us decide to get a pair was that each sole and strap is hand-painted and hand-stained, so each sandal is different from the others. There are no two sandals alike. For a recovering footwear addict like Grace the Happy Feet is an excellent mentor/sponsor to make her think twice before buying a new pair of shoes that she would only wear once or not even.

Available at your nearest malls or tiangge, check them out for yourself...

Maybe you will appreciate them as much as we did.

Wasted Times

"You and I together in our lives
Sacred ties would never fray
Then why can´t I let myself tell lies
And watch you die every day"

We've been together for 17 years, hmmmn such a long time to know someone that is not blood related to you. High school was a magical time for all of us. Back then everything was simple, fun and exciting. We have the future to conquer and a memorable past to look back to every now and then.

"I think back to the times
When dreams were what mattered
Tough talking youth naivete

You said you never let me down
But the horse stampedes and rages
In the name of desperation"

Since then we have gone our separate ways but we still try to hold on to the magic that is "Us", occasionally getting together to tell war stories about life, love, misery. There was college and new friends who have all come and gone but were still here. Partners have changed, Schatz did settle though, and up to this point I have no idea why? I personally think that people should never settle when it comes to having someone to share the rest of your life with, settling out of pressure, responsibility or worse desperation. Some people take single blessedness for granted, I guess it's the loneliness that comes with it that drives people to make life changing decisions that most often than not they would regret later on.

"Is it all just wasted time
Can you look at yourself
When you think of what
You left behind"

We are all lucky to have each other, we may not have as much time to be together as we used to, but when we really need to? we make the time. And then life goes on, and we go on... Together, looking forward to the day that we will sit back have a beer, a thousand laughs, like we used to, when life was simple, fun and exciting...

"The sun will rise again
The earth will turn to sand
Creation´s colors seem to fade to grey
And you´ll see the sickly hands of time
Will write your final rhyme
And end a memory

I never thought you´d let it get
this far, boy"

Thanks to (Pareng Jerc) and the rest of "Bone" for providing the evening's entertainment...

My New Shoes

I stopped keeping up with the latest accessories awhile back due to poverty or maturity, I can't really tell. I don't know what happened but I just lost interest, in the latest jeans, shirts, or shoes. I've succumbed to the laid back look with my collection of more than 10 year old shirts and never been washed sneakers, and jeans that's been out of style for sometime. And then one fine day, while trading stories with Dean (office mate, DotA nemesis, yosi groupie) he mentioned seeing the latest designs from "Airwalk" that looks a lot like Chuck Taylor's All Star Converse, all that raw info got me real curious. So I headed out to the nearest mall to see for myself, and lo and behold there it was, I quickly fell in love with two particular designs and the little voice inside my head told me to get them both but I could only afford one, so I picked the more practical than stylish of the two which was a green leather with a dirty white (complete with dirt specks embedded on the rubber) sole.

For less than 2K-Php it comes with an extra pair of green shoelaces (plus 8 hrs worth of ice skating rink free pass coupons) I say its worth breaking my extended hibernation from commercialism. Check it out!!!

A Piece of Peace (exerpts from TJoaX May 14, 1998)

When anger becomes fear,
Out of words
nauseas thoughts
Foolish dreams and desires.

The cold earth,
Burnt out fire,
Ashes of hatred,
Seeds of isolation.

The eternal question
A piece of peace?
A promising future
of a storm colored past.

The sun sets,
beyond the horizon.
A majestic dead calm and then
Fear becomes anger.

Wishing Well

I wish I have...
a thicker cowl,
a clearer view,
a fairer coat,
a bigger heart,
and a soul for creation.

I wish that...
irony is just a word not something that happens to me.
politics is not synonymous with graft and corruption.
and religion gives faith, not take it away.

I wish for...
Peace on Earth, Goodwill to all men.
Eradication of hunger, racial discrimination, religious wars,
and acceptance of all existing genders.
A greener environment where I may nurture a soul for creation...

September is here

I can't believe August went by so fast, I was only able to post one entry aside from this one, but I will try to make up for it before this day is over... There's a lot happening around us, there is that oil spill in Guimaras which I find really frustrating, we have laws to prevent these things from happening but no one seems interested to implement them. The dirty politics with it's selfish politicians, the not news worthy stories on the tube and papers and all that (stupid) JAZZ.

"8 million stories in the naked city" the Emmy's has come and gone, one of my favorite t.v. shows "24" piled up on awards. HBO (Asia) has a new series "Entourage" which I really find very entertaining. Big production with lots of cameo's, good story, excellent script, great actors, the works. I always believe that if you don't find success in your lifetime at least try to know someone successful whose got your back. This latest feel good show from HBO is all about that, friendships, enjoying life and staying true to who you are. That has always been my personal goal, but sometimes there are other variables that prevent me from reaching that goal and no matter how hard I try my life is not going to be like feel good movies. But at least we can always go to our favorite video store and purchase the latest box set and enjoy a movie marathon of our choice.

Night Watch

In darkness there should be peace,
Not chaos...
In peace, there must live silence,
Not restlessness...
And why must silence conceive distorted voices?

Past, present and future collides
and gives birth to darkness.
From the deathbed of restlessness peace arises.
Finally all the distorted voices in my head can be heard...

From the ear shattering silence...

Another "Bone-Y" Night

Me and some of my buds were treated to another funky set of "Bone", out in Kolumn Bar, in Timog, Quezon City last Friday night. "Funk Rocki'n" the stage with their all original repertoire, Bone is fast becoming an act with a great potential to be a milestone in the ever changing world of the local music industry. Being with old friends and having Bone blasting away with their kind of music is an experience that is truly worth sharing. I would really like to see more of them in the thriving bar scene, and maybe someday even an album... Good luck to all of you and thanks for a late night well spent. PEACE!!!

Special thanks to
"The Bass Man / Look at my Muscles" (Pareng Jerc) >>>>>>>
for the invite.
Rakenrol!!!

Kolumn Bar is one of the those rare venues that gives independent bands a chance to express their raw talents and original music, let us do our share and support the new breed of talented "up and coming" individuals while enjoying original Filipino music over a round of brewsky, whatever is your poison I hope to slam into you one of these days.

"Rock On"

The Journal of a Xzykho

At Sea

A long time ago (well, not that long) when I was still in the merchant marine, my mother wrote me a letter telling me that "Experience is the best teacher, and traveling was a great experience". These words somehow gave me a new outlook at the chance I was given traveling the world on board ships. At first it was all work for me, and it did not make any sense whatsoever that I had to leave everything that is familiar and comfortable just to earn a living. But witnessing the sun rise and set on a calm open sea where the sky meets the deep blue makes you realize the magic of being alive, whenever dolphins swim playfully alongside our ships I know that I will never be alone no matter where I am, and when the ocean shows its ugly head every so-often with her troubling storm tantrums I am reminded of how short and precious our stay in this world really is.

During those long months I spent away from home I started to write a journal of my thoughts and experiences, an idea given to me by my sister one day when I was on leave. Inside were manifested drafts of ideas, hopes, dreams and fears of a younger self that I sometimes fail to recognize now whenever I see my own image. After my last tour I put my journal away and totally forgot about it until a few days ago, I was scouring my treasured junk collection for some old cables for my image scanner when I chanced upon my keeper of thoughts. I could not remember when I had it last and what I have written inside is pretty vague by now. So I started reading the first pages and like a flash flood during a heavy downpour the memories came crashing in.

It was overwhelming to relive a decade of my life in one sitting, there are times when I can't help but smile remembering the feelings that I felt at a particular point in time, and then there were those disturbing passages that's so confusing that I feel so lucky to be here writing this all down for all those who care enough to share it with me.

Surreal

Hello stranger, how's the weather?
I hope you have your coat in case it gets cold.
By the way how's your mother?
I have to say you're a splitting image of her.

Really!? She said that? Ha ha, You're funny,
You remind me of myself at your age.
Wow, how you've grown
How could that be? Yesterday you were just a baby.

So how's your little brother? Is he!? He he...
Well boys will be boys, you have to understand,
You are after all his only big sister,
Always take care of each other.

And try not to be bothersome to your parents,
I'm sure they're trying their best,
Do your chores, and be a good girl.
Don't forget to do your homework.

So, are you ready to spend the day with me?
What do you like to do? No, I've never been there.
This is going to be a great day don't you think?
Wait here while I get the car...

What's that ringing? Is that your phone?
Oh its only the alarm, What time is it!? It's morning...
I was only dreaming, I'm sorry my angel...
I thought we were finally together.

Everything seemed so real,
It was all just wishful thinking.
The truth is, you don't know I exist.
And I only get to see you... in digitized images.

The Language of Sycamores

I'm not an avid fan of books that deals with our humanity, I'm more of a fictional, conspiracy, mystery, occult/fantasy kind of a reader. I like to escape to places I've never been or will never have a chance to go to. Where the never ending ascent of gasoline, commodities and political garbage is the least of my problems. But from time to time I stumble upon literary gems far from the genre I have grown to appreciate that is worth sharing.
"The Language of Sycamores" by Lisa Wingate is the third installment of the book series "Tending Roses". It follows Karen Sommerfield as she goes through a life changing experience after finding out from her doctor that she may have cancer (again) and losing her "Power Job" at Lansing Tech. When Karen tries to rediscover herself and renew her ties with her family she met a little girl named Dell who rescued her from her old self and allowed her to discover the real story behind Grandma Rose's fallout with her own family. Lisa Wingate is a good story teller, she gives vivid descriptions of the environment, (I swear I could feel the wind blowing). The book reminds me of a quote sent to me by Kyko Castaneda that I posted on my other blog "Writings on the Wall". Life is too short, if we don't take our time to find out what's really important in our lives we may end up old and miserable. Sometimes I reminisce about the good old days of my youth like it was just yesterday... Then I think maybe it was, and I ask myself "where did the time go?". I definitely recommend this book to all those who keeps waking up in the morning wondering "what am I doing with my life?", those who stare at their mirror reflection and not recognize their own image, those who are so immersed in themselves that they forget to be a part of the magic that is life. "Live life each day to the fullest, be thankful, be content".

Wow Phils

I try my hardest not to be so negative, I guess my angry teenage self is still with me after all this years and will always make it's presence felt whenever an opportunity calls for it. A couple of days ago on my way to work I was running late so I took the fast but crowded route via MRT. I need to get off in Buendia and take an FX that will take me to Ayala, the fare is supposed to be 10.00Php (minimum for FX's). Since I did not have any change I gave the driver a 20, so he turns to me and asks "do you have anything smaller?", "Sorry I dont" I told him, so then he asks the rest of the passengers if anybody could brake my 20... One good samaritan did, problem solved. But then when he gave me my change it was 2.00 short, so I ask the driver nicely if the fare went up and he casually said yes, he lied. That afternoon on my way home there was a long line of commuters at the MRT station all tired from working all day and a lady (if she even deserves the title) came out of nowhere and cut in the line. Some people protested to the guard on duty, instead of taking action I heard him say, "nasa Pilipinas ka", (you're in the Philippines). What does it mean!? That it's acceptable to cut in line and to overcharge fares in the Philippines? Because times are hard and everyone is desperate? This is not the first time I've experienced this, its rampant, its everywhere. Its in our streets, our homes, our schools and especially in our government. This apathy towards corruption, mis-education and crab mentality is inside each and everyone of us. Are we doomed to suffer? Dont be naive the answer is too obvious.

"BONE"

Last saturday night after our office party at our soon to be new address in Ortigas, Quezon City. I headed out to Kolumn Bar in Timog to show my support to my cousin JERC's latest funk band "Bone", only three days old, composed of friends, musicians and lovers of the chili pepper sound, Bone played true to their "Red Hot" influence with orignal songs like - Count to 10 muna (subtitled: Anger Management Song)-. Although they are in the early stages of bandhood, their talents made up for playing together live for the first time. The night was capped by "Radioactive Sago Project" who really brought the house down with - Astro - as a finale. - Special thanks to Shine of Sunshine Productions, the rest of "Bone" and Pareng JERC.
... More power and Goodluck to your future gigz, RAKENROL Pare...
Watch Out for their gig schedules to be posted ASAP.

She's 70, "What a surprise!!!"

"The Daughter of Mameng"
I call her "Mommy" she's my aunt who took care of me when I turned 8 months after birth, she turned 70 last May 29. My cousin Ate Tessie rounded up the rest of the family to give her a surprise birthday party that was held at "Rufina Homes Clubhouse" in Malolos, Bulacan last May 27 (on a Saturday). A thanksgiving mass was held officiated by Fr. Norman, then lunch was served, followed by a documentary presentation on the "Life and Times of Tita Nits or Tanits (as she is fondly known to all the cousins), "With some of her closest friends and relatives in full support the party was a huge success from my point of view.

By Ken Levine: American Idol Finale review

Ken Levine is an Emmy winning writer/director/producer/major league baseball announcer. In a career that has spanned over 30 years Ken has worked on MASH, CHEERS, FRASIER, THE SIMPSONS, WINGS, EVERYONE LOVES RAYMOND, BECKER, DHARMA & GREG, and has co-created his own series including ALMOST PERFECT starring Nancy Travis. He and his partner have also written the feature VOLUNTEERS. Ken has also been the radio/TV play-by-play voice of the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres.

American Idol Final Night

I used to think that I was too cool for American Idol but I got hooked on it this season when my girlfriend forced me to watch it with her during the auditions. It was hilarious, there were times that I feel the producers hired people to audition for the show just get some laughs. The winners have gone a long way since then, I made a few favorites during the eliminations, Chris Daughtry was one, being a fake rock god myself, Elliot Yamin was my favorite underdog. Anyway Taylor Hicks caught my attention during the auditions, at first I thought that he was going to be one of those comic reliefs but when he started to sing there was something about him that I immediately liked, he was an original, a fresh talent, a soul man... Today is the final night and Taylor proved that he could be the next American Idol, this is my first time to stay glued to the show and I really liked the line up of finalists, everyone deserves to be there. It's now down to Katherine Mcphee and Taylor Hicks and Taylor seems to be in the lead, goodluck to both of them, may the best person win. And whatever happens tonight they are all winners already...

Untitled

I was having coffee and reading a book while listening to music when i thought of you, I smiled.

The rain started to pour outside, I wanted to hold you but you were sleeping.
I settled in the corner of the bed and watched you smile.

You opened your eyes and I felt sorry for disturbing you,
then you reached for me and I lay next to you,
and you shared with me your funny dream and we were both laughing.

And the rain was pouring outside,
and the music was playing
and my coffee was getting cold
and the book I was reading lay on the table enjoying the gentle caress of the breeze coming from the open window.

"that was then, this is now"

"I don 't know what it is...
...about going to high school with someone...
... that makes you feel you're automatically friends for life.
Who says?
Who says friendship lasts forever?
We'd all like to, maybe...
...but maybe it just wears out like everything else.
Like tires.
There's just so much mileage in them and then you're on nothing but air. "
- Det. Lt. Nicholas 'Nick' Frescia - (Tequila Sunrise, 1988)

High School is the golden age of discovery for most of us, it becomes the bond that would keep us together unconditionally. Friendships are forged from this bond, baptized by the fire of solidarity, tested by experience and time spent with each other. The laughter and tears reinforces its strength.

But life is meant to be lived, and living means growing up, and when you grow up you tend to outgrow things, like your favorite shirt or jeans or shoes, even friends. When you outgrow something it doesn't have to mean that you'll give them away or throw them out. You need to hold on to special things, you'll find comfort knowing they're still there even though you don't see them that much but they would always be there when you need them. They are a big part of who you are, of what you've become.

I remember when we used to spend most of our waking hours together, back then we can't get enough of each other's company, sharing our adventures and misses, our hopes and dreams, back when life was simple. And then we grew up and soon we were communicating thru mails and then the time came when we were too busy to do that, good thing that technology keeps on making it easy for us to reach out with e-mails, chats and wireless connectivity, but deadlines and meetings and bills were taking over our small circle, adult problems everywhere. And now were finally on a stage where we need to set up appointments and schedules just to have coffee together or hang out and reminisce.

I feel sad to know that we grew up and apart... And the mileage has finally taken it's toll...
Life happens when your not looking, the only thing constant is change.

To Whom It May Concern,

I have been a friendster since June of 2004, I find it entertaining and a great way to hook up with old friends or find a new acquaintance every now and then. That being said I would like to take this opportunity to thank the team behind the scenes at friendster.com for doing an excellent job, for allowing us the freedom to express our individuality through friendster profile's customizable features. With these custom features we are inspired and given the ability to share our ideas and creativity for designing web pages. Recently I've noticed a growing number of friendsters who misuses this feature, "unintentionally" (I hope...). Their disregard for theme, harmony and color coordination simply cannot be overlooked. They fill their pages with blinking or scrolling backgrounds and if thats not enough they combine these effects to their hearts content.

One of my favorite feature in customizing profiles is the ability to share your favorite videos, movies and funny commercial ad clips, some friendsters feel the need to have more than one media player, I'm sorry but this really escapes my understanding.

I'm an advocate for the freedom to express yourself, a firm believer that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I did not write this letter to show my superiority to those with limited resources or experience to come up with an original and balanced design. I'm not trying to preach, I am only trying to exercise my right to have a personal opinion. I need to share my disappointment to those who are willing to listen, imagine that you're trying to browse the contents of a particular friendster profile that catches your interest but instead of devouring information you end up getting dizzy and nauseated by unnecessary and overwhelming add-ons. If you're reading this and somehow find it even remotely offensive please forgive me, but if by a twist of fate this letter inspires you to do better then I will be grateful and will be looking forward to visit your pages again.

Friendster is one of those unique places on the web where people are enabled to have a wider reach by extending their network of friends, it allows us to keep in touch with friends from our past no matter the distance, it helps us discover new things about different cultures. And if you feel that you're not responsible for your actions when you alienate people from knowing more about you then why did you even bother signing up for an account?

You can either ignore this or learn from it, after all, this is just one of my personal issues...

PEACE!!!

On his views of changing the present form of government (Philippines)...
In English

With regards kung sino ang papalit...

Nakita mo naman ang naging epekto ng pagpapalit ng personalidad. Pinalitan mo lang ang "driver" pero bulok pa rin ang jeep. Ang malala ay wreckless din ang ipinalit na driver. It's the system of society (not just the system of governance) that has to be overhauled. We have a very corrupt society precisely because it serves the needs of the few elite and not those who are impoverished, those who truly need to be served. Kailangan natin ng leadership that will genuinely cater to the needs of the majority. And this cannot come from the elite who has never had any experience whatsoever in being poor. At hindi naman kailangang isang tao lang, pwedeng isang grupo ng tao that will basically come from the grassroots. Tapusin na natin ang paghahari ng mga mapangkurakot na mayayaman. Ilagay na natin ang kapangyarihan sa nakararaming mamamayan na mas nakakaalam ng tunay niyang mga pangangailangan sa lipunan.

Our stand once again is "resign all" and then form a transitional revolutionary government that shall be composed, not of "trapos" posting as saviours, but of the very basic members of the majority of society, the masses particularly led by the working class, who know the real problems based on their own experience and would be most effective in resolving problems which they themselves are familiar with being the ones experiencing it. Remember, if we will just succumb to the clamour of the elite opposition for Gloria alone to resign, then, after all is said and done, we'll just be in the same rut as we were before.

"RESIGN ALL" pa rin Kumpare!!!!!!!

(From Kumpareng J.E.R.K.)

English Translation (by RodMan)

With regards to who would replace (the current administration...)

As you have witnessed the effect of changing the personalities (in government). You may have replaced the "driver" but the car is still junk. And the worst thing is the new driver is also wreckless. It's the system of society (not just the system of governance) that has to be overhauled. We have a very corrupt society precisely because it serves the needs of the few elite and not those who are impoverished, those who truly need to be served. We need the leadership that will genuinely cater to the needs of the majority. And this cannot come from the elite who has never had any experience whatsoever in being poor. And it doesn't have to be just one person, it could be a group of people that will basically come from the grassroots. Let us put an end to the rule of the corrupt elite. Let us finally put the power in the hands of the majority who knows their own needs in our society.

Our stand once again is "resign all" and then form a transitional revolutionary government that shall be composed, not of "trapos" (traditional politicians) posting as saviours, but of the very basic members of the majority of society, the masses particularly led by the working class, who know the real problems based on their own experience and would be most effective in resolving problems which they themselves are familiar with being the ones experiencing it. Remember, if we will just succumb to the clamour of the elite opposition for Gloria alone to resign, then, after all is said and done, we'll just be in the same rut as we were before.

Nephew

Recently my nephew moved in with us to study here, he's from aklan. i really dont know my nephew that much but i know that he's smart, above average smart. i was curious as to what course he was planning to take so i asked my mother, she told me that he was going to take up nursing... nursing? no disrespect to all the nursing students and nurses out there i know that they are indespensible members of our society, i just thought that a smart guy like my nephew would be leaning on engineering. he is also creative so i thought somewhere in the creative arts. but he would do nursing. i asked my mother "why not engineering?" she was an agriculturist by the way. her simple reply was there is no money in engineering, because there are no jobs for engineers. this remark made me think, are we doomed to be the slaves of money, putting our passion and creativity aside for us to be able to afford the price of commercialism? comfort? security?

I love democracy, i love the freedom, i love the freedom to be able to express my ideas, freedom to choose, to do what i want to do, to go where i want to go. democracy is the only form of government where i could do this, but what is democracy if you have a third world economy? intelligence is being exchanged for financial stability, creativity is swept under the dirty rugs of survival that is a daily requirement for self preservation. Where is this all headed? the youth of the nation, our nations future will all be going abroad to take care of the retired citizens of that country, entertain them, labor for them, all this in exchange so that their children can be like them.

How many years? five? ten? when will this all end, maybe when we are a nation of domestic helpers with a degree, nurses who were doctors, and would be engineers and artist who would become what like the rest of us have become, slaves...

For a free man, being a slave doesn't seem to be impossible or highly unlikely.
